FIRST PICTURE – Canon EOS 50D
As I was browsing through a photography magazine this week, I was excited to notice one of the professionals shooting with a Canon EOS 50D. How cool is that!?! I’ve read so many photography magazines in the past few months. Never have I seen anyone shooting with a Nikon L110. Not that there’s anything wrong with the Nikon. It’s a great point and shoot camera. But…it’s a point and shoot…very limited as to what you can manually do with the shot.
I thought it would be interesting to post my first picture with the new Canon EOS 50D. Now we can see if I make any improvements over the next few months.
Already weighed down with pollen, this guy’s eyes seem to pop when he sees the size of this treasure.

There is much to learn with this new camera. I have to admit, I took several shots as I was experimenting with different settings only to be somewhat disappointed when I viewed them. I was changing the settings that effected the depth of field and often created such a shallow depth of field that the extremities of my subject began to blur. It’s definitely going to be a learning process!

I think it’s a great shot. I love that you can see the eye and antennae of the bee. Great start, I’d say!

Wow! This is a really good first picture! I don’t see how you could improve on this shot. Were you using a macro lens?

Thanks! I was using my 28-135 mm zoom. I think a macro lens will bring some improvement. But, that purchase will have to wait. Those are expensive!

Love this shot—-such anticipation—and you had to be QUICK to shoot it, so I can appreciate this effort.
Thanks for the nice comment on my Green Spring Gardens photos. My main blog (which has the same photos but also portraits, travels, and everything including the kitchen sink) is http://www.cindydyer.wordpress.com.
Keep up the good work and enjoy that new camera!

It seems we are in a similar place: I just bought my first DSLR too – it is also a Canon, but my budget was much lower than yours as I went with the Rebel XS. I think your abilities are advanced well beyond mine, but its great to be in the same boat!
