WHAT’S WITH THE PHOTO SELECTION, WORDPRESS??

I started blogging a few months ago and must admit, I absolutely love it!  I love posting my photography.  I love writing.  I love reading your blogs and become excited when you post a comment to mine.  (Thank you for your comments and suggestions!)  I love that WordPress created this opportunity for me and I’ve been totally satisfied with everything they provide to make my blogging days successful.

But, I don’t understand the “cover photo” selection process for my blog post on their Freshly Pressed page.  When I started the blog, I would post my shots in sequence.  After a few posts I thought I noticed a pattern.  It seemed like they would always grab the third photo to use as the “cover photo” on their Freshly Pressed page.  But sometimes, that third shot was not the best shot of the sequence and certainly not a shot I would have chosen.  Thinking it must be an automated system because it didn’t seem logical that someone would actually select some of those shots, I began to make certain that my best shot was the third in the series – even if it placed it out of sequence.  And sure enough, as soon as I did that – the first photo started appearing as the “cover photo” on the Freshly Pressed page.  AGH!  Of course, I realize this may not be important to many of the bloggers in WordPressLand.  But to me, having a photography blog, the photo selection is paramount to attracting readers.

It would seem to be a simple solution to allow the author of the post to select the “cover photo.”  Or at the very least, simply take the same photo every time.  If I knew they were always going to grab the first photo or the third photo, then I could plan for that.  But right now, I can’t seem to ever get the photo I would choose to be the “cover photo.”

I really, really like you WordPress!  I think you do a fantastic job, WordPress!  But, am I missing something, here?  Can anyone shed some light on this process?

Now on to my regularly scheduled post.  (I’ve eliminated the “cover photo” issue this time by only posting one shot.)

I’ve always found church architecture to be fascinating.  I love the steeples and the crosses and the way they’re prominently displayed.

This is Hope Lutheran Church.  I’ve driven past this church dozens of times as it’s very close to my office.  On several occasions I’ve parked and walked around looking for different perspectives because I love the way the cross is framed.  Each time I stopped, something wasn’t quite right.  The sky was too grey and colorless.  The sky was too bland and uninteresting.  The sun was too high washing out all the color.  It seemed like it was always something – until yesterday.  Yesterday was an unusual day for Southern California, in that we had clouds – not haze, not smog, but real white clouds!  Even more unusual was the blue color to the sky!  We don’t get these blue skies too often in the valley in the summertime. 

IT WAS – – – – – – – A MIRACLE!!!!

This shot was two months in the making.  My photography lesson today: Never give up!
