THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS
With the Christmas season rapidly approaching (I know, Labor Day was just last weekend – but, you do realize Christmas will be here before you know it!), I was thinking of the old animated special “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” This was one of my favorite Christmas specials. Do you remember the Island of Misfit Toys? In this stop action animation, The Island of Misfit Toys was a place where all the toys that didn’t “fit in” would be sent. For instance, there was a “Charlie-in-the-Box.” Since he wasn’t a “Jack-in-the-Box” he was unwanted as a toy. Well, this post is very similar.
I thought I would post several shots that for a variety of reasons never made the final cut for a blog post. I guess they could be called “Misfits!” I’ll label them so you can include them in your Friday Favorite vote.

I voted for the mantis, but it was such a difficult decision! I think the surfer shot is amazing, I love the brilliant color in the onions, and the landscape shots are fabulous as well! What a great idea for a post, too.

Hey, Bob! I thought for sure you would tell me what kind of bird this is. I know there’s not a lot of detail. This shot was taken in the Avila Beach area of Central California. Someone walking by said he was posed this way to dry his feathers. Any ideas?

I was wondering about the bird too. I was thinking a vulture of some sort from the color of its head, but I’m no expert! I think your poll needs to allow for voting for more than one – I voted for “The Art” because it was so cool and different, but I really liked the Mantis and the mystery bird too.
