NOW GO OUT THERE AND HAVE SOME FUN!

This is going to be a very interesting post today, in that I photographed every shot here with the whimsical idea of just having fun!  Every day I go out into his world and look for great photography shots to capture, always hoping for that one spectacular photo that will become a treasured piece of art.

I didn’t want that today!  No, I said, “Today I want to have fun – do something different!”  Not that I don’t thoroughly enjoy all photography.  But, I didn’t want to have to think about composition or camera settings and lighting.  Although, I quickly discovered one has to give attention to such things.  But, you can vary the norm and that’s what I wanted to do today.  I was going to look through the viewfinder and if I liked what I saw, then I was going to change it to something I wouldn’t normally see or shoot!

So, off to my neighborhood Armstrong’s Nursery to photograph some flora.  And, here are the results!

This first shot is a flower I would have normally passed by.  The petals seemed to have a browned out, somewhat drab section near the bloom center.  Then I stopped.  I would normally pass this by.  So, today I’ll shoot it.  As it turns out, the browned out sections actually create a somewhat unique pattern.

For this red cactus bloom shot below, I would never have created such a shallow depth of field.  But when I did, it looked rather abstract through the viewfinder.

Walking down the next row of plants, I came upon this mysterious looking succulent with a draping of white thread-like covering intertwined with each leaf.  Again, I shallowed up the depth of field to create a fog-like atmosphere.

This little burst of color definitely caught my eye next!  For this shot, I zoomed into the deepest part of the center and blurred the edges again with my aperture setting.  Normally, I would have focused the entire bloom and probably just blurred the background.  Not today!

Now, this little guy just totally captivated me with his tentacle-like extensions.  And, he was so tiny!  I immediately saw the possibilities of an out-of-focus shot!  I could see almost a satin-like effect as it would appear very soft against the dark background.  For this effect, I simply adjusted the focus to where everything was slightly blurred.  No, even if you squint you won’t be able to bring it into focus.  I would have never done this on a normal day!  But this day was anything but normal!

OK, so I got a little more traditional on this shot.  But, I still like the striping effect of the petals.

You may hate them – you may love them.  Honestly, I’m not quite sure how I feel about them either.  But, I sure had fun with this photography diversion!

My advice to you photographers out there: Go out and have some fun!  Change it up a little!  Shoot something you wouldn’t normally shoot and in a way you would never consider shooting it…until today!
