GONE SHOOTING!!

I decided to forego our usual Friday Favorite today.  I’m gearing up to spend the weekend shooting!  It’s been a bit of a dry spell for me so I’m hoping this weekend will bring that to a screeching halt.

I photographed this bird at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands a few months ago, but never posted it.  I have no idea as to its identity.  Wouldn’t you know it, Bob’s on vacation!  He could probably tell me what it is.  But then, maybe one of you can identify it.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. looks like a snowy egret to me! great shot, only advice would be to underexpose a bit when shooting white birds (or any white animal) so the detail in the fur doesn’t get lost.

but again … that’s a wonderful shot, I really like being able to see such a crisp reflection in the water as well

  4. Defintely an egret! Probably a great white egret, unless there’s another similar US species I don’t know of… Well spotted!
    Happy shooting!

  5. It reminds me of a Crane, but I’m no bird expert. I do enjoy the beauty of a wonderful photograph which you have here. Love the reflection.

  6. Thanks, Holly! Sometimes when you’re sort of slumping, you begin to go back through the shots that never made it into a post. this was one such shot. I’m glad you stopped by today!

  7. Thanks for this tip, John. I’m sure you’re right on with the exposure issue. I may have also been giving the reflection too much attention, causing the image to suffer a little. One vote for a snowy egret! Thanks for stopping by and helping me with your comment. I always appreciate it.

  8. Another vote for an egret, but the other vote is for a snowy egret. Hmm, I’m going to have to do some research. I’m glad you stopped by, Kate! I hope you’ll come by again, soon.

  9. Another egret vote! I’m not sure if a great white is the same as a snowy white, though. Oh, where is Bob when I need him? Of course, I referring to Bob Zeller. he comments on most of my posts and is an avid bird photographer. But, he’s on vacation. I’m glad you stopped by, Kai! Thanks for leaving this comment. I really appreciate it.

  10. A crane. Hmm, is that the same as an egret? I really don’t know, but feel I must find out. Thanks for your kinde comment, Martina! I’m really glad you stopped by today!

  11. UGH!!! I just returned to my office because my camera battery died! I was photographing this amazing architechural globe displayed at the entrance of a very large business park when it died. How amateur is that??? I know I should have an extra battery pack, but other accessories are so much more fun to buy! On the upside, it does give me an excuse to visit my favorite camera store – like I needed an excuse! Have a nice weekend everyone.

  12. I love the shot!! We went hiking a couple of days this past week because the weather is absolutely perfect and I got some pretty good shots. But while out yesterday I sprained my ankle so I won’t be hiking for a couple of weeks. Happy shooting.

  13. Definitely looks like a Snowy Egret. I use a website to identify birds when I’m stumped called http://www.whatbird.com/. I find it to be a great resource. Love the reflection!

  18. One more thing, Firthefirst is right. On something this white, a minus 1/3 or 2/3 would have given you a much better exposed shot.

  19. I think that may have been my reasoning for not immediately posting it. I sure missed that when I took the shot. But, it was almost the first thing I noticed when I loaded the shot on my computer. Oh well, learning every day. Today, I learned the importance of a spare battery! :). Thanks, Bob!

  22. Thank you for stopping by Miss Betty! I remember when I took this shot. It was fun to watch these birds as they were hunting for their dinner. I did see this one catch a fish and eat it, but he was so fast my shot was blurred. I’m just glad I came across it again. 🙂

  24. I can not tell you which bird it is, but I can say, that you did right in posting it! What makes very special is the water and the mirror image of the bird in it.
