I SURVIVED THE TIDE POOLS!!
It was “touch and go” for a while, but everyone can now breathe a deep sigh of relief! We all survived!
Last Monday found our family on an excursion that led us to the Tide Pools of Little Corona Del Mar. It was a glorious day of about 78 degrees! (I’m really sorry for those who may be suffering in the more frigid areas of the world right now. But I would welcome you to our fair state of winter – sunny and 78 degrees!) With kids and grandkids in tow, off we went!
This area is very interesting because of the many marine variations found underfoot! Be careful where you step! Ahhhh…the ocean was cool to our parched feet following our trek down the steep incline from the cliffs above. Meandering through the rock formations and the ocean inlets, the marine life we discovered was met with enthusiastic “ooohs and ahhhs.” LOOK THERE! Just beneath our feet were dozens of hermit crabs carrying their portable homes on their backs.
With all of our toes intact (spared by the wandering hermit crabs) we climbed up from the Tide Pools to Inspiration Point. The shot below was taken from Inspiration Point looking toward the north. Just across the Newport Beach Channel you can see “The Wedge.” Not much action today, though. As you continue to look northward, you’ll see the Balboa Pier. This is where the original Ruby’s Diner is located and a popular lunch spot on our Pacific Coast bicycle ride. Still further north, if you look carefully, you can see the Newport Beach Pier.
A wonderful day was had by all! I can see why they call this Inspiration Point! I felt inspired!

Very inspirational. We have just come out of a deep freeze–even my little dog didn’t venture out for long when she had to. Nice to see that other parts of the world are enjoying being outside!

Hi Tim. We were there in the late morning, I believe. I didn’t really get any good shots. I hiked south to try to get a good perspective of that arched rock in that cove, but I couldn’t get far enough to get the sun to my side. I was in flip flops which made the rocky hike a bit treacherous!

You really can see forever from this spot. I can see why they call it Inspiration Point! I’m sorry it’s so cold where you are, Heather. Sometimes living here I do forget it’s winter in many places. I don’t mean to rub it in! 🙂
But, spring is just around the corner when you’ll soon be taking great pictures of newly blossomed flowers!

What a wonderful day for such an outing (glad all toes are accounted for). Now if you throw in some rain, clouds and drop the temp by about 30-40 degrees…naw, keep it this way! 😀 Great shot.

Nice to live in Southern Cal!! One of these day’s we’re going to run into each other. We seem to photograph the same place 🙂 My sister lived in Corona Del Mar, now she’s in Laguna…so we are at the beach all the time. Love your point of view!!
