A DIFFERENT SUNSET WITHIN THE SAME SUNSET…WHAT??

I feel very blessed to live in southern California.  Even in my limited travels, nearly everyone who crosses my path indicates how much they would love to live here.  I always ask them, “So, why don’t you?”

Most people spend their entire lives wishing for something…contemplating a dream.  But they live in fear of that first step and the unknown of where that journey may lead.  I have to admit, I’m not like those people at all!  I relish the excitement of that first step, and welcome the rush of the possibilities of where that journey may lead!

Not so very long ago when I was in my 20’s, [some of you chuckled at that statement…I don’t understand] my wife and I along with our two sons visited southern California for the very first time.  Needless to say, we fell in love with it.  In fact I clearly remember thinking, I would love to live here!  The more I thought about it, the more I talked to my wife about it, the more I said, “Why Not?”

Two years later we were living here!  All because I said, “Why Not?”  Well, not completely.  But, that was the beginning.  Now please don’t misunderstand me.  I’m not advocating a mindless migration without any thought or plan!  No, no!

What I am saying is this: The beginning of any achievement is asking yourself, “Why not?”

Huntington Beach, California

This is a scene that I am blessed to see nearly everyday!  Such beauty!  When I captured this image there were probably 15 other people photographing the very same sunset.  Some of them tourists, while others were professionals.  Each one of us captured a different image, even though we were all photographing the same identical sunset.  That’s the beauty of a sunset – it’s unique…even within itself.  I probably snapped 100 shots of this same sunset that evening.  Some taken only seconds apart.  Yet, each of them different.  Literally, a different sunset within the same sunset!

It’s the same way with people.  Billions of people – yet no two alike.  You are that one unique person only you can be.  And even that will change in a few minutes as you progress through life and experience the transitions that come to all of us.

What do you wish for?  What do you dream about?  The first step to accomplishing anything is asking yourself the question, “Why not?”

NOW IS THE TIME…TO ASK, “WHY NOT?’

When you reach an impasse with a problem, take a new approach.

Free your mind from negativity.

Explore all the possibilities, however unlikely,

Ask yourself, “Why not?”

Then, follow that question to its conclusion.

“Why not go out on a limb?  Isn’t that where the fruit is?”  —Frank Scully

  4. Hi you are so right “Why Not”
I told myself the same when I have come to Canada oh sooo many years ago all by myself, and all to learn English. So I would have a better job when I go back to Switzerland that was my home at the time. Now 27 years later still living in Canada with a wonderful husband and two children I wonder sometimes if it would be possible for us to move to the sunny California. Like the Napa Valley, that we visited on our 15th anniversary or some wonderful place.
Well we may be able to swing a 6month deal but I think that would be it from what I understand of Canadians staying in the USA. Then just coming back from a visit to my home country I wonder would I ever go back to live there again one day too…I used to say never…but now I wonder…and my dreaming goes on.
Wonderful pictures and your stories are with so much expression. Thanks for sharing them

  6. Hi Jacqueline. Thank you for your comments. I so appreciate them! I went to the flag counter site. After I walked through their process to set up my account, I had to copy the link which they provided. Then, I came into my widget section and created a new “text” widget. Within the newly created text widget, I pasted the link provided by Flag Counter and very quickly it appeared on my site. It may have taken a few hours, but it wasn’t long.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? That’s how it worked for my theme. But, it could be different for different themes. Let me know! 🙂

  8. I would also add, I’m not sure as to their accuracy. They seem to calculate the visits different than WordPress. They are never the same.
