IT’S 2:05 AM – EVERYTHING CHANGED!!

As if by magic at precisely 2:05 AM in southern California, autumn ushers in a dramatic change!

Unlike many other parts of the country, you have to really know where to look for this dramatic change in California.  With valley temperatures in the 90’s, one might have difficulty considering today anything other than another summer day.  (So glad I don’t live in the valley!)  Ah but if you look carefully, you can see the changes.

Traveling down historic Route 66, only a few miles from my office, I can see this dramatic change.  Seemingly overnight, the maple trees along this well-traveled avenue begin to dress themselves in the brightest of fall colors!  Though very slight at first, eventually these magnificent trees will display the radiant color only fall can create!

Everything changed at precisely 2:05 AM this morning.  For now, it’s a small change.  But as time passes, every leaf will participate in this beautiful transformation that we call autumn!

  5. Hi Roberta! Even though it’s summer-like here, the leaves are beginning their change. It’s pretty nice by the beach, though!!

  6. Your fall colors are coming early! Unless the valley is still green that is… Which was where I came from. 😉

Which filter did you use to get the sandy looking texture in your photo? Oh, and I like the contrast between the beautiful colors and the bark! ~ Lynda

  11. Thanks for stopping by, Lynda! These trees are very interesting, in that right now there is only 1or maybe 2 small branches where the leaves have changed. All the rest of the leaves are showing no signs of change. That makes it even more interesting – the red leaves contrasting so much with the green leaves.

I used a filter to highlight the edges on the bark only. The leaves have no filter processing – only some minor defining.

It’s good to see you again, Lynda!

  12. Beautiful image, the colors are amazing – and so are autumn colors, they are beautiful. But they are warnings about cold and dark times! Give me those summer temperatures, please 😉

  13. I think it’s the contrast with the green leaves that have yet to change that makes it so special, Truels! Fortunately for us, our summer fades into a pretty amazing fall and winter. In fact, the winter affords so many more photography opportunities, in my opinion. The sky is far more interesting and everything becomes a bit greener!! I’m looking forward to it!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend! Always appreciate your comments.

  14. OK, autumn and winter offer many photo motifs! – but dark and cold: that’s NOT my favorites!! Maybe that’s why I this year keep publishing “Summer retrospect”-posts 😉
