PASTEL vs SEPIA – WHICH WORKS FOR YOU?
This is a flower I originally presented in a pastel format. But, I also decided to present it in a sepia format.
This is the pastel presentation.
Which do you prefer?

Definitely pastel in my opinion.

Personally, I like them both. However, I think if you’re going to do a series, it would look prettier in pastels if different colors…

My 2 cents: I like the pastel version better. I suspect it is because to me, the sepia makes it look a little “flat” without any bright highlights to contrast the black background.

Pastel – the sepia flower lacks the depth of the pastel version.

I am going to go the opposite direction. I like the sepia better. Shows more detail to me.

Both versions are beautiful in their own way. I guess it depends on what you want to end up with as series. Personally I’m more drawn to color images but the sepia definitely has it’s place.

The Sepia is a nice effect but my opinion is that if you’re gonna shoot floral, the colors are a very important aspect

That’s one vote for the color, Barb. It’s hard to go against it…but…

I think if you consider a series, it is probably best in pastel, Kuukisu. But on it’s own…the sepia may have its place. Thanks for sharing your ideas! 🙂

For this single specimen I prefer the color. Although, I think a whole vase full of different blossoms would be awesome as a sepia… a still life presentation perhaps with a drape, or a quaint table and cloth? Something of the vintage persuasion I think. Just MHO, anyway.

I can’t decide which one I like because honestly, I love both effects. The pastel is utterly beautiful and the sepia looks classic to me. Wonderful job.

for me, the pastel. the gray contrast against the pink and the detail in the center of the flower jumps out at me more in the pastel version.

Excellent, Kay! There different and difficult to compare because if presented the right way, both would make nice pieces. Thanks!
